Winter Park, Eldora ski areas open for 2023-24 winter season

Last weekend's storm dropped more than a foot of snow on Colorado's mountains. Skiers and snowboarders are heading to the hills.

COLORADO, USA — Two more Colorado ski areas will be opening up their slopes to skiers and riders this week.

Eldora Mountain Resort announced Wednesday that it will open Friday, two weeks ahead of schedule, thanks to 15 inches of recent snow and cold temperatures that are ideal for snowmaking.

“Our incredible employees have done it again,” said Brent Tregaskis, Eldora’s president and general manager, in a statement. “Thanks to their monumental efforts, we’re able to open this Friday, November 3. Along with our beloved guests, our team members are what make Eldora such a special place, and the go-to gathering spot for local skiers and riders for more than 60 years. We’re the perfect half-day mountain, where you can grab a couple hours of rejuvenating snow time and then get on with your day.”

Beginning Friday, the Alpenglow chair will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week. One-thousand vertical feet of terrain will be open, including Hornblower, Klondike and International trails, plus a small terrain park near the West Wing Lodge, the resort said.

Beginner terrain, lessons, uphill access and Nordic/snowshoe trails will not be open yet.

Fresh-baked muffins will be available for the first guests in line, and music will be provided by Godlazer.

Winter Park Resort also announced that their lifts will start running Friday morning. The Gemini Express will be running at 9 a.m., with limited terrain.

Village Way and Lower Parkway will be open for skiing and riding, the resort said.

Two other Colorado ski areas are already open. Keystone Resort opened Wednesday, and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area opened on Sunday.
