Local athletes commit on National Signing Day

Hundreds of local athletes across Colorado are signing their early letters of intent to play their sport at the next level.

DENVER — It was National Signing Day for non-football sports across the country as hundred of CO athletes signed their national letter of intent to head to college.

Chatfield had eight signees including reigning state softball MVP, Karlie Cooledge who's headed to Colorado State University to play softball.

"Everything is coming together," Cooledge said. "Before, I was so anxious because I wanted to win a championship, I was anxious to go to college, everything is coming together and God is working for me.

A list of all the Chatfield signees:

  • Karlie Cooledge: Colorado State University: Softball
  • Aly Green: Northwestern Oklahoma State University: Soccer
  • Jayden Heil: Catawba College: Soccer
  • Camille Kollar: Idaho State University: Soccer
  • Jayden Krause: Kutztown University: Lacrosse
  • Emma Lence: Colorado Mesa University: Diving
  • Brady Snow: Wofford University: Baseball
  • Klara Van Beuge: Radford University: Softball

Over at St. Mary's Academy, four ladies signed for four different sports, including three-time 3A golf state team champion ( 2021, 2022, 2023), two-time individual champion (2022,2023), and the 2023 3A Golfer of the Year, Maddy Bante. She is headed to Notre Dame.

Bante becomes the first golfer to go to a Division one university from St. Mary's.

"This school has amazing athletes come through in the past and it's just so special to be a part of that," Bante said. "But whatever school you choose, whatever division you go to, you're pretty special."

Our other athletes included in the celebration are:

  • Swimmer Caitlin Crysel: A 2023 High School All-American, state record-holder for the 3A 200 Yard IM, and an integral part of the 4th place 3A State Swim Champion team. Caitlin will swim at Emory University. 
  • Equestrian Meghan Moore: A Top 20 finalist at the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) Hunter Seat Medal Finals West Coast and competed in the USHJA Jumping Seat Medal Finals, Meghan is poised to excel in equestrian at Hollins University.
  • Volleyball player Maggie Turner: A four-year varsity player with several school records, Maggie will play at Haverford College.
